R.O.C.K!
Raising Our Communities Kids
Welcome to the R.O.C.K Project!
Supported by Youth Music’s Trailblazer Fund
An Introduction to R.O.C.K!
Launched in May 2025, the R.O.C.K Project (Raising Our Communities Kids), has been made possible by Youth Music’s Trailblazer Fund. We are delighted to be working again with Youth Music on this exciting new project, dedicated to providing development opportunities for budding young musicians.
The Trailblazer fund provides opportunities for children and young people under 25 to ‘make, learn and earn in music’, supporting organisations dedicated to exploring new ways of working with young people, to create a grass roots programme which can lead to positive changes for participants.
R.O.C.K. Sessions
The R.O.C.K project offers budding young musicians a opportunity to take part in a 12 week workshop where they will learn to play music on the instrument of their choice, play in an ensemble and experience music recording and production. The sessions culminate in a live performance and recording at the Niburu London music studio.
The first taster was held in May 2025, attracting 20 budding musicians and singers. Participants expressed great excitement for the project, separating into vocal and instrumental groups. The session allowed participants abilities to be assessed, with dedication being of greater importance than musical ability.
The vocalists, who demonstrated a wealth of natural talent, choose ‘Lean on Me’ for the initial session. The musicians were largely inexperienced and guided by local musician / songwriter Loui Carlet, chose their preferred instruments.
The success of the taster session and group numbers has allowed the project to continue with the initial participants.
Sessions 2 and 3 were held on 22nd and 29th May. The vocal group is working on harmonies, showing great promise and demonstrating excellent focus. The musicians, playing keyboard, drums, guitar (lead & bass), and cello, are equally enthusiastic, familiarising themselves with their instruments and learning to play as a band.
As sessions continue, we look forward to sharing updates to celebrate the progress of this inspiring group of young people.

Musical Collaborations
We are delighted to be working in collaboration with Exodus Youth Worx UK and Northside Youth Community Connections (NYCC), to present this uplifting project. Sharing goals and aspirations with these two incredible local organisations, we are privileged to have the benefit of their expertise, energy and dedication in bringing this project to the local young community,
NYCC have provided a perfect location for the project at their community centre in Edmonton Green. Sessions are held in collaboration with Exodus Youth Worx UK. Working closely with Exodus Director Tara Hanna, whose support has been incredible and a real joy to work with. We also have to thank all the staff at NYCC for looking after us and especially Chris McCoy providing us with the space to work with the young people. We are hoping this is beginning of long working relationship as we are seeking funding to develop a music hub that supports the musical needs of the local area.

Northside Youth Community Connections
Established in 2008 in response to the escalating gang violence in the community, NYCC support young people, parents and the wider community through the delivery of bespoke programmes, workshops, mentoring and outreach programmes. Working with young people between 11 and 25, NYCC strives to provide the skills to build positive relationships, strengthen and develop self-esteem and confidence, and promote personal skill development.

Exodus Youth Worx UK
An inspiring organisation dedicated to “Encourage, Empower and Enable young people to be the best version of themselves”, Exodus are a registered charity working in Enfield, across London and the Southeast. Established in 2019, Exodus work closely with young people and their families to build better lives. Supported by a dynamic body of volunteers, Exodus touches the lives of families and young people, raising hearts and bringing positive changes.

Enfield Council
Funded by Enfield Council, the Open Door Community Fund supports local residents and organisation to create projects and strategies in areas experiencing high levels of crime, supporting activities that bring long term changes to the community. The Community fund offers the potential to expand upon the R.O.C.K Project, providing additional musical session and support for young people over the summer holidays for young people within the local community.
Project Updates
Summer Recess 2025
With smaller numbers attending over the summer holidays, Niburu took the opportunity to hold one to one lessons. The additional sessions proved extremely popular, particularly with the fledgling musicians, providing the opportunity to focus on individual skills and honing techniques.
The continuation of the project during the summer season offered a welcomed focus for young people, not only to extend their musical skill but as a place where they can continue to learn how to play an instrument in an area hampered by high levels of social deprivation and provides very little in the way of music tuition for young people with a passion for becoming skilled instrumentalists.
It’s (Nearly), Showtime!
As R.O.C.K’s the first group of young musicians and singers reach the end of their 12 week sessions, preparations are underway for the professional performance, to be recorded at the Niburu London Studio in late September. We look forward to sharing news of the performance and celebrating the wonderful achievements of the lively and dynamic group of young people.
The enthusiasm and commitment from R.O.C.K’s first group of young singers and musicians has been overwhelming. Their development is such a short period of time is a testimony to their hard work and keen focus both during the weekly sessions and further practice in their own time at home.
The Studio Rehearsal!
With showtime approaching, a collective decision was made to undertake a studio rehearsal in advance of the final performance. This would allow the young musicians to experience the recording process and familiarise themselves in a new environment without the pressure of recording their final performance.
The studio rehearsal was appreciated by everyone, and will now be incorporated to the programme going forwards.
The Final Show!
Showtime proved to be a wonderful experience for everyone! With experience gained after the studio rehearsal, the group exhibited great confidence and focus throughout the session.
The journey each of these young musicians have made is a testimony to their commitment to themselves, the group and the project. We are so proud of all they have achieved and look forward to working with them again in later projects.
While the final videos are being edited, we were keen to share a few highlights from the final performance.
We look forward to sharing move videos with you soon to celebrate achievements of these wonderful young musicians!

Moving Forwards
A Bright Future For The Young Musical Community
With a new cohort due to begin in early October, Niburu is looking into further opportunities to offer continued support for members of the first group who are keen to continue with their musical journey. The impact on individual’s musical skills is keenly evident, with a wider development of personal and interpersonal skills shining through each member.

Niburu is actively developing partnerships with, Exodus Youth Worx, Northside Youth Community Connexions (NYCC), and North London Music Centre (Enfield) to establish a dedicated Creative Music Hub in our borough.
The hub will provide ongoing one-to-one tuition (free for families unable to afford it), expand open-access group music workshops, and create progression routes into accredited training and employment. By embedding our music programme within this wider network of community and professional partners, we will sustain delivery, secure additional funding, and ensure that young people continue to benefit long after this grant ends.
